The internet is an amazing tool for finding information about an infinite number of subjects. There are so many places online to research and share cake designs, techniques, and recipes! This cake was inspired by a beautiful cake from Sweet Things Toronto. Her cake was in turn inspired by this Wilton Amazing Amazon Cake. If you are ever in Toronto please track down one of her cupcakes and overnight it to me, please!!! They are available at Beaches Bake Shop. I'm seriously not kidding!!!

I love the trepidation at first!

But it didn't take long to get to this...

Strawberry Cupcakes

I love it when a customer places an order for a cake or cupcakes to give as a surprise for someone! They usually give you two or three pieces of information about the person for whom they are getting the cake or cupcakes. Creating the design is like putting pieces together of a puzzle.

This week a customer placed an order for cupcakes for a friend's birthday. The friend is pregnant and likes fruit! I think these Strawberry Cupcakes with Strawberry Buttercream Frosting fit the bill perfectly! They are topped with "baby" Marzipan fruits!

Pink Topsy Turvy Cake

IMG_3979, originally uploaded by bakers-cakes.

When my best customer asked me to make a "pink cake" for her sister and left it at that, I was thrilled! It's been too long since I've had the opportunity to let it all hang out in pink, but here it is! I was inspired by the beautiful cakes at Pink Cake Box. The cake is Baker's Cakes Signature Chocolate Cake with Double Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting between the cake layers, topped with Baker's Cakes entirely made from scratch Vanilla and Chocolate Fondant. I love the little flowers!

Baker's Cakes Jr.

Ever wonder what the little one does when I have a busy day in the kitchen? Sometimes we mix up a little "cake" just for her to make!

This is a recipe for Edible Play Dough that is great for kids to make and play with (and eat)!

Edible Play Dough

In a bowl combine:
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup honey or corn syrup
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup powdered milk

Mix together and roll, stamp, and cut! That's it!!!

I've been making this since my first child was about 1 1/2. Honestly, I think I'm still using the same box of powdered milk (that stuff lasts forever)! I always have all the other ingredients on hand. The kids help measure and stir. Then when I'm doing my work, they can do theirs!

Lemon Cake

I'm working on developing a lemon cake recipe. The Perfect Lemon Cake has just the right balance between sweet and tart.

This cake is a perfectly moist Lemon Buttermilk Layer Cake, with Lemon Curd Filling, and Lemon Buttercream Frosting. I gave the cake a generous dousing of lemon syrup too! The cake itself, is flavored with a hint of lemon and zest, while the lemon curd and lemon syrup infused cake provide the one-two lemon flavor punch! The lemon buttercream is very subtle and very sweet to compliment the cake and filling. Doesn't this cake look like a slice of summer?

April Vacation is Sweet

The kids made a batch of chocolate cupcakes this afternoon!

The Easter Bunny brought this sweet t-shirt! (Livestrong!)

This is how the little one "helps."

He was so into the decorating!

It's a miracle all of my food photographs don't look like this one!

Lego Indiana Jones Cake

Lego Indiana Jones Cake, originally uploaded by bakers-cakes.

Indy is nine layers of Buttermilk Cake with Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting and handmade fondant. He is standing on a temple constructed of three layers of Baker's Cakes Signature Chocolate Cake with Double Chocolate Cream Cheese Butter Cream Frosting, topped with crushed graham cracker crumbs!

This cake was for one lucky boy who was turning six! He is a Lego maniac and loves the Indiana Jones Legos! After all twelve layers were assembled, there was a moment before we drove it to his house when I thought it easiest if we just volunteered to have his party here! The kids could gather round the fridge and sing Happy Birthday right here! But the cake made it to it's destination with no caketastrophies and the Birthday Boy was thrilled!

Thanks Everyone!!!

As I write this, I don't yet know the final outcome of the Iron Cupcake Earth Challenge! But what I do know is that I am so appreciative of everyone who voted and put out a call to vote for Baker's Cakes!!! We've had votes coming in from all over the country! Our west coast contingent in California, friends in Colorado, and our base, the Cupcake States as I like to call them: NY, MA, PA, NH, and NC. Let's not forget VT, FL, and all the others! It was so nice to hear from old friends and new as well!!! I wish I could personally hand deliver a cupcake and thank you to all for your support!!! Thanks SO much!!!

All my love,

Danielle
