Swim, Bike, Run Cake

I love this cake that the mother of my dear friend, ordered for her! Moms are awesome, aren't they? If I was going to make my own birthday cake (which is coming soon hint, hint) this is the cake I would make for me, well except with my name on it!

The cake is Baker's Cakes Signature Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting and is topped with Chocolate Fondant. The running shoes, goggles, and bike helmet are sculpted out of fondant and sugar paste.

I went with plenty of shades of blue to match her favorite: Carolina Blue!

Meredith is an amazing mom to a 1 1/2 year old, works for the university, trains for marathons, bikes with us for fun, and somehow finds time to work on her masters degree! I often wonder how she does it!?! Happy Birthday Mere!

Thanks so much to Juanita at Sweet Things for sharing her triathlon cake designs with me!!!

Logo Cake

Logo Cake, originally uploaded by bakers-cakes.

The Aquatics Director at Chapel Hill Country Club ordered this cake as an end of season "Thank You" for her staff! The cake is Baker's Cakes Signature Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. I finally figured out how to transfer a logo onto fondant! I printed out the logo, placed the paper onto the fondant, and then traced the lines that I wanted to cut with an exacto knife. When I picked up the paper, a slight impression was left in the fondant to show where I needed to cut out the logo. This was particularly helpful with the negative/positive space in this logo design!

Pink Topsy Turvy Cake

IMG_3979, originally uploaded by bakers-cakes.

When my best customer asked me to make a "pink cake" for her sister and left it at that, I was thrilled! It's been too long since I've had the opportunity to let it all hang out in pink, but here it is! I was inspired by the beautiful cakes at Pink Cake Box. The cake is Baker's Cakes Signature Chocolate Cake with Double Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting between the cake layers, topped with Baker's Cakes entirely made from scratch Vanilla and Chocolate Fondant. I love the little flowers!
